Today's Member of the Week is Brooke Park. Brooke works at Mount Union School District in Mount Union, Pennsylvania. She has been a school librarian for 3 years.
We asked Brooke some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
Being able to meet with all the kids within the school and helping them find a book they love!
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
The Westing Game
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community because of the great resources that it offers. With still being new to the library system it offers a great outline of materials to teach the students with interactive and engaging activities.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
The biggest challenge right now is the lack of funds and getting the library collection up to date. With the cost of books, it is very difficult to keep a collection of the most recent books that students are interested in and want to read.
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
Time management! There never seems to be enough time in the day to repair books, put away books, make plans, and help students. Prioritize what is important to you.
