Today's Member of the Month is Christa Bell. Christa works at Lafayette County C-1 School District in Higginsville. She has been a school librarian for 1 year.
We asked Christa some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
Helping students find books that excite them and teaching them to use resources that are available!
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
Rosie Revere, Engineer
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I decided to join to be able to have resources at my fingertips. As a first year librarian, I wanted to make sure I was on the right track and had some guidance since I am the only one in my district. My favorite thing is the many platforms that support is available in!
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
Advocate for your school library. It is important for you to make sure administrators and the community know how important libraries are to our school and community. They need to be treated as such.
Juggling two libraries by myself. Keeping up with almost 1000 students and shelving books and planning lessons and many other tasks is a lot!
