Today's Member of the Week is Dawn Sanchez. Dawn works at SouthWick Elementary in Northfield, NH. She has been a school librarian for 2 years.
We asked Dawn some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
My Favorite part about this job is getting to know all the children as well as the staff in the school. This is our little community and I love the tribe I am in.
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
Green Eggs and Ham
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
To be honest this is my first to hear about it and so I am very excited. I want to thank the person that put my name out there. I just want to make a difference and so I am glad someone feels like I am.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
My advice to a Brand New librarian is make sure you have the passion for this field because if not you will burn out and lose your true mission.
My biggest Challenge is how to get the students to love books and reading as I do. Many of them come from a background of parents that struggled with reading themselves and so the excitement is not there for many.
