Today's Member of the Week is Heather Barlow. Heather works at Trinity School in Menlo Park, California. She has been a school librarian for five years.
We asked Heather some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
I enjoy finding the best books for reluctant readers.
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
Harry Potter
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I love the community and the help with curriculum maps and lesson plans.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
Working with a limited budget and getting volunteers.
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
Don't be afraid to go off the beaten path. There are no library rules/correct procedures that are set in stone.
