Today's Member of the Month is Meghan Bing. Meghan works at Guadalupe Centers Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. She has been a school librarian for 3 years.
We asked Meghan some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
My favorite part of my job is when I get the opportunity to really connect with my students. I love when they discover a new book that they're excited about or really get excited about the learning process.
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community because I am still learning about how to be the best librarian I can. I wanted extra guidance to plan lessons that are engaging and fun for my students.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
The biggest challenge right now is navigating a new school library in the middle of a pandemic. There are a lot of unique challenges that all educators have faced during this school year.
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
Start by learning where your school library, your students, your teachers and you are currently at in your growth and learning process. Learn where your school and your students need extra help and where they excel. Learn your overall strengths and weaknesses and decide what your priorities are. Everything takes time and progress is progress no matter how fast or slow.
