Today's Member of the Week is Melissa Cooper. Melissa works at Calico Rock School District in Calico Rock, AR. She has been a school librarian for twenty-two years.
We asked Melissa some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
Getting to know ALL students at our school, K-6!
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
Hooway for Wodney Wat
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
The technology-related lesson plans and connection to frameworks.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
Team teaching/collaboration with classroom teachers. Trying to teach the skills in conjunction with when they're being used in the classroom.
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
It's a perfect job for those who love to teach AND for those who love to purchase and organize. Always busy but worth all the busyness!
