Today I'm taking a little break from my regular topics to share a little bit more about me. I've been kind of stressed lately, so I can't tell you how much I've appreciated your encouragement. I've had so many emails, blog comments, Facebook comments, and tweets thanking me for starting the site. If I haven't thanked you personally for your kind words about my website, please consider this a heartfelt thank you!
With that being said, I'll tell you a little about my day-to-day schedule and why I'm stressed. As many of you know, this website is an additional job for me. I started it for several reasons, but the main reason was to plan my own library lesson plans for the year and help others find library lessons that integrate the Common Core standards and AASL standards. Every day I'm kind of blown away by the site's reach and success, considering it's been around less than 2 months. I have all of you to thank for it!
Since school has started, it's been hard to do everything I'd like to do with the site. When it comes to my paying jobs, my first priority is my job as a librarian. I owe it to my district and school to give 100% of myself while I'm there. As I mentioned in my Frequently Asked Questions, I never work on anything website related during school hours. I will occasionally check my email at lunch, but that's it.
When I get home, I have a second full time job as a mommy. My son, Isaac, will be 4 in November. My daughter, Anna, will be 2 in January. I'm also a football widow from July through November. My husband is a high school teacher and football coach, so I'm pretty much on my own with both children after school until 8:00 (or later) on an average night. During that time, I play with my children; feed them dinner; do dishes, laundry, and general straightening; get the children bathed and in bed; prepare for the next day; and take a shower (because I don't want to get up 15 minutes earlier to shower in the morning!). When I'm not working, I'm very active with my church and I do a bit of running from time to time.
So what's the point? I've said before that these are the best, worst, and craziest times of my life. I wouldn't change a thing, but I wouldn't turn down a nap. 🙂 I know many people are new here, so I just wanted to clarify some things about my website. I'm not a big company or an Internet marketing genius. I'm just a small town librarian trying to pay off her student loans. If you contact me and I don't get back to you quickly, I probably have a good reason and I will respond as soon as I can. If you're looking for a particular resource, I am working on it (I promise) and I will post it as soon as it is finished. I do most of my website work on the weekends and I'm especially looking forward to an extra day this weekend! I promise I'll be working hard so we can be prepared for September's library lesson plans. I appreciate your understanding and patience. I will not let you down!
What is stressing you out right now? Has your life been less stressful if you've been using my library lesson plans? It thrills me to know that my lessons are working in other people's libraries. Don't be shy! Share with us in the comments!
