Today's Member of the Week is Ronda Campbell. Ronda works at Delta Elementary School in Bay Minette, AL. She has been a school librarian for 13 years.
We asked Ronda some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
My favorite thing about being a school librarian is introducing new books to my students! I love when they find books and authors that they love. It's very rewarding to see past students and hear about how much they loved library time when they were younger.
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
I couldn't be without "Mr. Wiggle's Book" by Paula M. Craig to start a new year in the library.
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community to get new ideas and for the support with resources.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
I would tell a new librarian to remember to try to keep the "fun" in library time. It's very easy to get bogged down in all of the daily tasks. But, students really can develop a love of reading from that short time they spend in the library each week!
I think currently the biggest challenge in my library is getting everything done! I often have to leave library management tasks such as shelving books on the back burner. But, it gets done eventually. 🙂
