Today's Member of the Week is Vanessa Krebsbach. Vanessa works at Richfield Dual Language School in Richfield, MN. She has been a school librarian for 1 year.
We asked Vanessa some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
Watching students light up when they find a book they love!
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
Shel Silverstein - Where the Sidewalk Ends
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
As a new Librarian, I felt like I had a lot to learn! Rather than making it all up from scratch, I use the Elementary Librarian Community for lesson plan ideas for grades K-5.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
As I am finishing my first year as a school librarian, I would say to just take things one step at a time and don't worry about being perfect right away. There is a lot to learn, so do your best and be patient with yourself.
Working in a Spanish dual language school, the biggest challenge I face is making sure we have enough resources in both languages. We have a lack of Spanish nonfiction texts, so I'm working to expand our collection.
