I am so glad I found the Elementary Librarian monthly lesson plans last year! The fact that these plans were easy to use and were aligned to both the AASL and Common Core ELA standards made them worth far more that what I paid for them! Implementing the lessons helped me become so comfortable with the CCSS ELA standards that I was regularly able to identify how my own "tried and true" lessons could be CCSS-aligned, too. I look forward to more fully implementing this year! -Mikki
After looking through all your lesson plans, I owe you MUCH more than what I paid!!! Wow!! It is amazing. Every first year Media Specialist needs your plans. This will be my 7th year and until your plans I have been spinning my wheels trying to come up with solid plans each week. There is SO much I could teach and SO many different ways! This creates a very good foundation for me to build my career upon. The "classes" have been my biggest stressor as a new Media Specialist. I had planned on spending all summer trying to figure out my "years" plans, but you have done all the work for me. Now I will get comfortable with what I will be teaching. -Sarah C.
As a new school librarian and a career changer without classroom teaching experience, I was thrilled to discover your treasure trove of resources. Funny enough, I had been using some of the same resources you list as your foundation for some of your lessons, but you have reduced my work load and increased my confidence by already arranging lessons for different grades that actually work and by identifying quality links to games and resources. After two years of doing it "my way"--I decided this past spring to utilize the center approach and do it "your" way. The students are engaged in the centers. I see them using the knowledge. Thanks for sharing your experiences, challenges, and ideas! -Kathryn B.
Your lesson plans with the Common Core Standards and the AASL 21st Century Standards were a life saver! My principal stopped in and looked through my plan binder and was completely floored that EVERY lesson had both sets of standards. I owe it all to you! Thanks! -Tina P.
As a first year school librarian, this website was a great resource to use to guide me when I needed help with my scheduling and resources to use with students. It is often challenging to be the only one of your kind in a school and there really isn't much out there for Elementary school librarians. The information about scheduling, library stations, and the curriculum map has been particularly helpful to me. I recently purchased the entire year of library lesson plans and look forward to using them with my students during the upcoming school year. -Holly E.
This website and the lesson plans have been a huge gift to me - I'm a brand new elementary librarian and found this site after some intense searching! I'm so glad it (and the lesson plans!) exist because I've been able to feel like I might know what I'm doing come August! It's all slightly less overwhelming and I know I'm going to keep checking back to see what else has been added. I love the librarian network and especially the Elementary Librarian! Thank you so much! -Beth D.
In September I started as a new elementary school librarian (I was previously in a high school). I was unsure of how to start and after some searching I stumbled upon your website and the FREE August lesson plans. I signed up immediately and my fears were mitigated. I not only got off to a great start, but the kids and my administrator loved the lessons as well! -Kerri D.
I've just been hired as an Elementary Librarian for the upcoming school year (first library position, although I'm a 14 year teaching veteran). I'm very excited about this position, and have already spent a lot of time reading your blog, trying to prepare for my new position. I love the ideas presented here and just reading the blog makes me feel as though I have a "friend" in the library! Thank you! -Kathryn D.
The Elementary Librarian website has helped me greatly as a first year librarian. I honestly had no idea where to begin in teaching library skills. Here, I discovered Common Core aligned lesson plans and even ideas for library stations/centers. Now I have a lessons and a read aloud for the first day in the library. Thanks for the confidence I need to be successful my first year in the library. -Allison M.
I had an interview for an elementary librarian position and was very nervous. Searching google found Elementary Librarian for me. It has wonderful resources that gave me great ideas. I've never been a librarian, but thanks to this website, I am now. I've got the job and now the lesson plans. I feel much less anxious about the enormous task ahead of me because of all the hard work Jocelyn has put into this website and her lessons. Thank you! -Amber T.
As a new librarian I enjoyed being part of the library science community. Reading your blogs on current issues such as, should we use the dewey decimal system today, to check out options has been very beneficial to my growth. I enjoyed the discussions that have taken place after each blog. We are a distinct community that reaches every aspect and person in education. Thank you for nurturing that community. -Marcia M.
