Today's Member of the Week is Christy Gonzales. Christy works at Rains Elementary in Emory, TX. She has been a school librarian for four years.
We asked Christy some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
First, I am the Librarian Assistant since our District Librarian has to cover all four campuses. My favorite thing about being in the library is getting to see every student in the school and help to be a positive and caring person for them.
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
I don't have one particular book.
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I found the website January of 2017 when I discovered I would be writing lesson plans for grades PreK - 2nd. I wanted something that would help me accomplish this and still allow me to tweak the lesson plans to fit our campus. I love how easy it is to navigate around the site and pick out what best fits our needs.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
Making lesson plans for 4 different grade levels.
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
Always have a positive attitude and be willing to change when needed. The library should be a fun and exciting place to learn to love reading, so have fun and enjoy reading with them.
