The past few days have been very exciting for me. Someone had asked me to do a meeting in person a while back, and I wasn't really sure what to say. I threw out a question on Facebook the other day, just wondering if people might be interesting in attending an official event. I got an overwhelming number of responses!
I started the planning stages of the very first Elementary Librarian meetup in Nashville, Tennessee. You can check out the details here. I'm also considering a meetup in Atlanta, and possibly even some other places.
Even if you're nowhere near me geographically, there will be options for you, too. I will be hosting some webinars over the summer! Stay tuned for details about that.
In the meantime, I'm going to answer a few questions I've received about the meetups.
What will we do at the meetup?
We will talk about many of the successes and challenges of today's school libraries. Each attendee will get time for individual Q&A. We will discuss practical and actionable strategies for each person to take back to their school.
Why are there only 20 spaces available for each city?
I want each attendee to get a chance to express their concerns about their school library. As a group, we will develop very specific strategies for each person attending.
Can I get Continuing Education or Professional Development Hours for attending?
That's up to your school or district. I am happy to help you fill out paperwork detailing what we'll be doing if your district requires it. Just let me know how I can help.
What is included in the price?
Each attendee will receive a printed copy of the 2014-2015 library lesson plans and a resource CD that contains all the lesson plan activities. The retail price of these materials will be comparable to the event cost when they go on sale later this summer. If you planned to purchase the new lesson plans anyway, the event will be a fun bonus at around the same price!
In order to host a live event, I have to account for venue rental, lunch, snacks, the cost of printing the lesson plans/resource CDs, travel costs, and my time. These costs were carefully calculated to cover everything while still providing great value to attendees.
How will this event be different from free CE/PD offered by my district?
This intensive, one day event is exclusively for school librarians. We will discuss relevant and timely library topics with other school librarians and work together to solve individual problems or concerns.
What happens if the minimum number of attendees is not met?
The event will be canceled and you will receive a full refund.
Do you accept school purchase orders?
I am happy to accept purchase orders as long as I have them by the event deadline. Contact me if you need additional information.
What if I have other questions about the summer meetups?
Feel free to contact me! I am always happy to help.
Would you like me to come to your area? Leave a comment and let me know where you could travel to!
