I'm back from my live events and vacation! It's been a very exciting and fun-filled summer (except for the part where our vehicle broke down on the way home from Atlanta). I was able to get my new library lesson plans finished up and on the site on Monday. I've spent much of today planning some really exciting content for my blog and podcast. I'm also planning a webinar series that will start next week. Look for more information about the first one really soon!
With the first day of school quickly approaching for most of you (sorry to remind you...), I wanted to reach out and ask: What are you stressed about right now? Maybe you're a new librarian and you're totally overwhelmed (we've all been there). Maybe you've been doing this for a while and just need some fresh ideas.
Leave a comment and let me know what you are stressed about. I will use your comments to guide my content so I can make your life easier in the upcoming school year!

I'm the "new" media specialist after 17 years in the classroom. I'm nervous about where to begin and where to start.

This is my first year as a media specialist. The last three years we have had a para-professional in the library. Needless to say, there hasn't been a lot done in the library. Where do I start? They did inventory the books at the end of the school year and I have been up to the library several times this summer. I don't want try to do to much all at once but I want the kids to be excited and I want them to learn.

"The last three years we have had a para-professional in the library. Needless to say, there hasn’t been a lot done in the library." ??? I'm a Library Media Para and work by myself, and do a huge job very well. Many do. It's too bad you had someone who didn't appear to work. Most of us are spread really thin, lunch duty, bus duty, but I still bring in a huge amount of grants, do monthly units and displays...

Our school was damaged by a tornado in April, so we had to pack up the entire school the last few days of the Spring semester. My library got a total makeover (yay!), but I'm going back to work on July 28 with the entire library in boxes.

I'm in a "new" library this year that was build in the 1950s. It's sponge painted, shelves have been stacked randomly and not bolted down. There's a whole in the wall where snakes like to creep in. Books that were discarded back in 1999 were stored... never thrown away. It's. Gross. My wonderful mil has been helping clean house.

We are kindred spirits. This is my 2nd year and I am still overwhelmed. My 50 year old library flooded last year two weeks before school opened. So the library did not even open until October. In addition, since the books and other resources that were mostly outdated had to packed up and moved out (by my 7th grade daughter) in order for repairs to be made, I did not even have access to the books. I am so overwhelmed! This is going to be my first first day of school as a librarian. I am excited about the open house suggestions.
