Today's Member of the Month is Dawn Monroe. Dawn works at Ardmore City Schools in Ardmore, OK. She has been a school librarian for 1 year.
We asked Dawn some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
I love everything about my job. Helping students find just the right book, seeing little first graders learn to read and their confidence grow. I love organizing the library or getting in that first big book order of the year and the smell of new books and the sounds they make when you first open the cover. I think it is special that I get to work with all the students and learn their likes and dislikes. I have an awesome partner in my aide, Mrs. Brown, and she is a valuable asset to me.
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
Fly Guy. The students love them!
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I felt that as a brand new librarian I could use the extra help and ideas.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
Number one, to join this site. Number two, get a partner - she or he will be a great asset to you. Number three, don't be afraid to ask questions.
