We asked Martha some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
I love children's literature. I love creating lessons aligned to the curriculum and based on literature and information skills. I love teaching my littles about using the library and fostering a love and appreciation for reading.
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.
The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo
Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
The convenience of the lessons being done for you as well as the many topics discussed.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
It is the best job ever! Do not view your library as a quiet place. Times have changed! Our library is the heart of the school and a very busy place.
Funding, but we make it work.
