4 School Superintendents attended and moderated the panel for the SLJ Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C.
- Pam Moran, superintendent of Albemarle County (VA) Public Schools
- Mat McRae, superintendent, Swan Valley (MI) School District
- Timothy Purnell, superintendent, Somerville (NJ) Public Schools
- Karen Sullivan, superintendent, Indian Prairie (IL) CUSD 204
They engaged their audience with high and enthusiastic regard for libraries and its librarians.
“Contemporary learning starts with libraries,” said Pam Moran
On librarians, Sullivan said that they are “catalysts for the radical transformation that needs to happen in public education for all kids.”
Purnell says, “change in my district comes because we hire phenomenal librarians.”
“Teachers will not invite you into their classrooms until they know you care about them,” urged McRae.
It is truly encouraging to read about how these insightful leaders understand the vital role librarians passionately live by, especially in this day and age where news like this don’t make the front page.
