Today's Member of the Month is Susan Johnson. Susan works at Washington Elementary School in Shelby. She has been a school librarian for 5 years.
We asked Susan some questions about her experience as a school librarian and we would like to share them with you.
What's your favorite thing about your job as a school librarian?
Working with all of the students in our school and watching them grow through the years!
Name one children's book that you couldn't live without in your library.

Tell us why you decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community. What's your favorite thing about it?
I decided to join the Elementary Librarian Community as it came to me at a time when I was looking for leadership, best practices, and collaboration in my work as an elementary school media coordinator.
What's the biggest challenge you're currently facing when it comes to your school library?
My biggest challenge is finding time to plan, design, create and implement small group lessons/activities within my fixed-schedule.
If you could give one piece of advice to a brand new school librarian (or someone considering becoming a school librarian), what would it be?
My advice to new librarians is to find a supportive/collaborative group within your school district followed by a community that reaches beyond your local area to encompass an abundance of ideas for your work in the elementary school media center (i.e., The Elementary Librarian).
It is a great opportunity to join this page to interact ideas
